Why subscribe to CensusTrail.com?
Our features for conducting searches are designed to provide you with the greatest
opportunity for success:
- With soundex or wildcard search using “%” your ability to find
names is greatly increased. Using the wildcard you can even get a complete
alphabetical listing of a state for one decennial year! None of the major
genealogy databases provide that opportunity.
- One can conduct a search based on a historical locality that does not exist
now. For example: The Territory Northwest of the Ohio River, Mississippi
Territory, or Indiana Territory, etc.
- We have names on our database that you won’t find on the three largest
online databases. Click here to see the details of a study clearly demonstrating
this fact.
- The three largest online databases have billions of names available. However,
there were not that many people living here for the time period we are working
on. Only about 3,000,000 people lived in America in 1790 with less than 400,000
heads of household.
- Unlike the non-census records in other web-sites, Censustrail.com organizes
the information by date and locality like a census would.
- We focus our efforts on areas of missing censuses so the impact of our
database is concentrated where it is needed most. Excluding existing census
records, our files are quite large for their area of focus.
- Our database may be able to help you identify where your ancestor lived
and when for a time period that is usually quite difficult because of missing
census records.
- Knowing when
and where your ancestors were located is vital to your research because
you then know what specific records to search.
- We include information where records have been burned, such as Burke or
Washington Counties, Georgia .
What we are doing is very expensive and that is why we are subscription
based. You benefit by subscribing even if we don’t have the records
you need presently. Your assistance will help us in getting those records
online.

OUR INDEXING METHODOLOGY
When we index a name we include most relevant information to help you decide if that person is important to you without your having to go to the source. This is especially helpful for common surnames. For example:
An 1850 Ohio census index contains about 7200 Smiths and 720 John Smiths! And that is just for heads of household. All the index gives is the name and place found on the census. Few would take the time to search census microfilm 7200 times to find a child in the Smith family they are looking for.
With Censustrail.com, you have the information needed for you to choose whether you want to go to the source or not. This saves considerable time and energy on your part.
